Before You Vote Tomorrow Just before you vote tomorrow on the income tax, please re member ' ! ! j t That real properly in Oregon meaning farms, town homes, timber and business buildings are carrying the tax burden of the present day; : That high salaries and income from securities are now going free from tax in Oregon; That the man with a .small home pays his proportion for the government, schools and other privileges, while the high income man gets the benefit of these blessings and pays nothing; .That banks and other corporations ARE TAXED on their incomes through the individual stockholders, regardless of the misrepresentation that has been made; That in Oregon the class of men with heavy incomes is in creasing, and these dodge the taxes, while the farni and the small home each year carries a larger and larger burden; That taxation will not decrease but it will increase as cost of government increases, hence someone must pay the increase. If the man with an income is not brought into the taxpaying game along with the owner of real estate it means the real estate owner must not only pay the additional taxes for in creased government cost. It is either pay a lot more or make the man with an income help you bear this load; That the fight now being waged on the income tax bill has brought forth in bold relief those who are willing to hold to the selfish view and let the state perish as a whole; those who care nothing for the future prosperity of the agricultural and livestock industry, hose who think of self and self alone; , Thnt the argument about driving industry from Oregon is easily answered by comparison of the tax in California and Ore gon today. An industry seeking a location is offered taxation in Los Angeles at 14 mills, while Portland charges 46 mills on the dollar. Would it not be well to obtain some form of taxation . other than real estate so that Portland can offer the same in ducement Los Angeles offers. Tho$c who prate about this fea ture of driving out industry either are insincere or misinformed; That theVimf4cnieJ24inlji1ngj!v the future straight in the face. fso one wants wealthy, no one wants to tax away the possessions of the rich, but at the same time theic is a fairness and equity which the men of large incomes should assume along with their neighbors who own real estate and that can be done by adopting perman ently the state income tax. Vote for the income tax law tomorrow at the referendum election.
