Near Accident. What came near being a serfour accident took place on the hill north west of Enterprise last Sunday. The fact that the machine was running slowly prevented serious injury . to the -passengers. The car was a Dodge driven by Mr Kasovitch, of Elgin, and in trying to get out of a rut, it is thought something went wrong with the steering gear, throw ing the car to the side of the road and down a steep grade. Mr. Max well. Elgin's postmaster, Dave Zweifcl .. and the driver suffered minor injuries and the car was dam aged badly. Bert Higgins returned Sunday morning from Portland and near-by points where he has been employed lor some time. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sadler and a party of friends attended the Elgin Enterprise ball game Sunday. Eugene Hug and Cecil Howard spent the forenoon of Sunday fishing in the Milium and Wallowa rivers. They report good catch. Kasniuscn brothers also were among those fishing in the Wallowa streams Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Barnes. Sirs. Glenn Barnes and son, Dale, and "Dutch" 'Barnes made the trip to Wallowa Lake Sunday. They ate their lunch in the park there and Mrs Keiber and Mrs. Scott Ifnrrix are now in La Grande where Mrs. Harris lias gone for medical treat ment. Mrs. W. A. Winters and Mrs. Lynn Hill attended the meeting' of the Summerville Ladies' Aid last Thursday. A large number were in attendance and all enjoyed the de licious refreshments provided by the Summerville ladies, and the very pleasant program which followed. The meeting was held at the Mike Royce home northwest of Summer ville. Several people from other communities were in attendance. Mrs. S. S.iMcNauirhton is snend-. ing a few days at the William Hill home south of town. 'She plans to leave soon for Spokane with Dr. and Mrs. WiUson, to speml the rest oi the summer. The family of Ed Halley from the Grande Ronde valley spent Sunday at Charles McAlister's home near Enterprise, driving to the Lake later in the day. Loaise Denham spent the week end at Wallowa Lake as1 a guest of the L. M- Hoyt family of La Grande. Mr. and Mrs. Kloostra and Mrs. R. E. Harnian drove to La Grande Wednesday of this week. H. Allen, of the City Drug Store, was a business visitor in La Grande Wednesday. Mr. an,d Mrs. Golding were La Grande visitors this week. The funeral of Thomas Todd was held Saturday afternoon from the Christian Church. Rev. H. L. Willis, an old friernd of Mr. Todd's conduct ed the services.
