Beside The Point
The weather bureau has issued a warning to the public against
placing confidence in rainmaking schemes. The statement is di
rected agains the experiments conducted at Dayton recently in
which it was slated that clouds were dissipated by sprinkling them
with electrically charged sand. The news given out by the ex
perimenters stressed the fact that the device ordered offered a
means of clearing away fogs and clouds, if it should prove to be
what the development thus far indicated for it. It was staled that;
. if the clouds were charged with moisture the latter would be pre
cipitated as a mist. No claim was made that sprinkling electrically
charged sand would cause clouds to gather or accumulate moisture.
Itather, the opposite is true.
The declaration of the weather bureau that " all rainmaking
schemes are futile" would seem to be gratuitous as far as the Day
Ion experiments are concerned. Then why should reflection be
