Isaiah 2:.'i- - ' ' The Stock Show And it grew to proportion never dreamed of; it became the I iff event of Eastern Orejron because it had merit, because it was well managed, beoauset it is situated in a county that is the best breeding county of the western country. That briefly tells the story of progress of the Union Stock Show which is now in progress at Union. People do not drive for a hun dred miles just to be driving. They do not leave their homes and their business for iiie sake of losing a day. There is a magnet, and a preUv'stroiig one these days, to get men and women to con-. gregi.te in one spot for the entire day that magnet is the stock aliOw. ' The best of the west is here exhibited. The industry that caused the pioneer to iambic across the plains, the same industry Unit will ever be one of the foremost of the nation is on exhibition. With such a magnet to attract there is added the social side of the evmt which is no small side. People look forward to meeting friends once a year at the stock show. They look, IV ward to the vacation period when they can go to Union and while witnessing the splendid exhibition, also visit, with old friends. And the city of Union does her part nobly every year. Coming Of The President -Oregon is to be honored with a visit from President Harding. Eastern Oregon is to be so honored. On July 3rd from 9 ii! the morning until i) in the evening, the chief executive of this na tion will visit with the people of tlfe northwest who congregate on top of the P.lue mountains to attend the Old Oregon Trail Tageant. This is an exceptional pleasure and privilege. Remember the U. S. A. is a big country and Warren G. Harding is just one man. Think of what it means to actually have the president of this great I nation spend a day with us on top of the mountain. It's great! It's glorious! Eastern Oregon is going to show her ability to entertain a president the first time in her history. It will be a good enter tainment, and 'the president will enjoy himself. Let cvpry-citizpn-hccomc n committee of one to help in this groat celebration. Tn order lo make the event worthy of the pres ident's attendance it must be a big event. The program as out lined is truly wonderful, but let's embellish it a little, let's put an extra curl in the old stage driver's mustache and do a lot of little things which will please the chief executive. Oregon will greet the president in a way ho shall remember. And it will be done on top of the old historic mountains. Junking The Constitution The mid-western group of newspapers which has set out to junk the constitution of the United States by the adoption of a constitutional amendment giving congress the power by a two thiids vole to overrule the supremo court doubtless will achieve no little publicity for the syndicate which fathers it, but it can not hope for success. In effect such an amendment would give power to any con gress al any time without previous warning of its intention to map the whole United States government and give this nation something entirely different. With the proposed amendment in force congress might pas; n law to abolish the constitution and by a two-thiids vote over nile I lie supreme court's decision against the legality of such, an act. In short, (he country would be forever al the mercy of a two thirds ote of any congress, the supreme court would become the meie plaything of polities, and the will of the counirv would be likely to be ovoi ruled by some election freak that would result! ill a congiess not lepiesi ntalivc of public opinion.- The end of tree, popular government in America would be in sight the moment such a fool amendment were made to the con-' slitution of the United States.
