Wholesale trade in lumber has un
dergone considerable reduction in
volume during May and at present is
quite dull, fcay the fAmfericau Lum
berman, Chicago. The result is that
prices have shewn a general down
ward trend. Declines, however, have
not been extensive and are not likely
to become so, in view of the fact that
fundamentally t he lumber industry
remains in a strong position. The
congestion of business at the mills,
consequent to the enormous demand
earlier this year, and aggravated by
intense stock scarcity and unfavor
able productien conditions, bus been
greatly relieved- Therefore tiie mar-
