Grande, which .claims for its memlei'ship over 300 ladies who have
done their part and done it well -to make La Grande the excellent
home city it is, to raise the standard of living "here, to establish
u moral tone to the community which is often mentioned.
The May Day breakfast of this club, held at the Country club
Tuesday, was a demonstration of what constancy, loyalty and per-;
sislence will do. No doubt the few cllarter members of the organ
ization who were present marvelled jit the growth of the club as
the club rooms were filled with the several hundred ladies who en
joy thoroughly the annual breakfast event. No doubt these char
ter members thought back over the days when the Neigh Ixirhoixl
club, many yeais ago, started on its work of education and enlight
enment, cementing together the ladies of the city and establishing
standards which have since become the official yardstick of meas
urement relative to civic matters.
Lit Grande is proud, indeed, of the Neighborhood club. It is
essentially,. a very important part of the city's life. That it should
year after year continue to grow, continue to hold the center of
attention and continue to advance in its work is very commendable
and obliterates forever the old-time Mief that women could nut
successfully organize and stick to a chosen program.
The mayor of Warren ton has just resigned. Seems like War
renton is the Oregon town which recently put on a lady manager
for the city.
Since President Harding is planning to visit Alaska he evident
ly takes no stock in fears that this will le a year ithout a summer, j
