open a "stork account" if a suBrcros-
tion made by the health committee
of the local council of women is car
ried into effect. A deputation from
the local council waited on Mayor
G. H. Webster and Commissioner
Graves recently to suggest that such
an account be opened by the city.

possible tor expectant mothers to lay
aside a sufficient sum for tho day
ol need by making payments in ad
vance, ihe trouble with the usual
installment plan, the women explain
ed, is that it in usually paid after
the event. But after, tho birth of
a child, there are a number of ex

and eighty thousand young fir trees
arc being planted oh Mount' Hobo, in
the Tillamook sertion of 'ihe Siuslaw
national forest, and the work is about
half completed, ' according, to Ralph
S. Shelley, supervisor, who' has just
returned from an inspection trH to
that portiono of the forest. The work
was begun early litis spring.
'About 12 years ago the forest ser
vice planted fir, oak and alder trees
on this tract the onk and alder be
inff an experiment. Supervisor Shel
ley said that the firs have been do
ing well and have made u remark
able growth, but many of the others
died and only here and there one is
seen.
