Oregon Is Nol So Bad
1 We hear a lot about Oregon's faults and the faults of her peo
ple. But Oregon must take second place when it comes to th?
fairer sex matching a statewide row. Over in Seattle at a parent
teachers' gathering recently there was, a real, honest-to-goodnes(s
brawl pulled off among the "intellectual women" of the state.
One woman was elected to an office in the association and her
election was protested. The hot words followed and the charge,

The Oregopian's New Press
Sunday's issue of the Portland Oreuonian told of the new five
deck fast press which is now beinjf built for that newspaper in
Chicago. It is to be the last word in printing press manufacture
and the fastest press on the Pacific coast.
When reading the announcement of the Oivgoninn's new ma
chine we reniembejed the story of the Oregonian's early career as
told us in Uaker one Sunday when II. L. Pillock was visiting that
city sixteen years ago. The tremendous growth of Portland'
morning newspaper has been more than natural. Kvery equip
ment which the Oregonian has purchased has hardly become op
erative until K was found the city and state had caught up and
something better was needed. Hut il must be stated that the
Orcgonian has kept stop with the great northwest. No one has
eer visilni Portland and complained that her newspapers were
not up to standard, and today the Orcgonian stands forth a", a
n.uiiel nawspaper ol' the nation editorially, typographically, and
from a point of press work, that newspaper has few equals.
With installation of the new five-deck press we will probably
witness an even greater Orcgonian.
