on indictment was returned Monday
afternoon by the federal grand jury,
will plead before Federal Judge F.
S. Dietrich this afternoon at two
o'clock. The indicted men, repre
sented by a brilliant array of luga
counsel, appeared before Judge Rie
trich Tuesday afternoon and the
charges set forth in the indictment
were read by S. H. MeEvers, assis
tant United States district attorney.
Henry Griffith will be defended by
P. E. Cavaney.
Ed Hill has retained the. firm of
Martin and Martin as his counsel.
James Agnew will be represented
by the firm of Hawley and Hawley.

Sylvester Kinney has employed
Claude Gibson as his legal counsel.
Ed Ward, Ed Kemp and Mr. and

MONTH'S REPORT
January circulation records show
an increase over Jnst year, despite
the fact that with the discontinuance
of the county library many county
borrowers have been deprived freo
use of the city library.
The total loans of books and per
iodicals was 4,384. Adult. 3,320, and
juvenile, 1,135. Only G"5 per cent
of books circulated were fiction. The
average daily circulation was 1(19.
Cooks borrowed from the State li
brary amounted to 20 volumes.
There were 70 borrowers, 20 of
this numher being juvenile. 1 New
books added, 103. Grove's diction
ary of music and musiciuns in 0
volumes, a much needed set, was
added, to the reference collection.
Sixty-four copies -of seven-day fic
tion, including twe and three copies
of the popular authors: Beach, Bow
er, Kyne, Lewis, Hutchinson, Will
sic and others were put in circula
tion on th0' 12th and 13th day, of
the month.
An unusual number .of temporary
deposit cards were issued to tran
