That farming machinery will be raised from ten to fifteen ptr cent and that new prices are now in ef fect, has come as a surprb to the farmers and ranchers in this sec tion, Jt is alio a disappointment to many who weno counting on buy ing new machinery for this vcar as : the lowering of the freight rate ' nan iea many to believe that farm machinery would be lower in price and at tn-rnis so that the farm." who needed it could get It. It is time for the implement and machine companies to realize that - the farmer has had rv low pricci .or ni- moor anil produce for thu Jiast few years and that he has no looney to pay out tor tneir divi dends on their stock and that he Will use what machinery he has on hand or will get along wi hout. This phould be a whale of a year for trapshooting. The amateurs are now in control of the sport for the firs: time. through the recently; incorporated Amateur I rapshooters A.sociatton of America. This organization will, quite naturally, receive support from the manufacturers in .n way oi tnj filthy lucre, but how the money shall be Kpent; is entirely up to the ama teurs. If the amateurs can spend the money .to better advantage thain the, manufacturers have been spend incr it for' a oiiai'tor of a jcontury. they jrill get. more money, in;' the iu-io ture. tv-! ! .,;! One we have already noted, that of giving the Ftstern Zone tournament to the New York Athletic cluti. un der the. old -regime none of the "trap shooting tournnmentrJ at Travers Island wer registered, and it was aftcn said that none would be regis tered until the amateurs were eon ducting the affairs of trapshooting. .lust as soon as thsi napponea tne New York A. It would not be surpris ing if shooters did exactly the same thing in other zone tournaments. It is inter.-iting to know too, that At lantic City, K roudshurg, B., Syra cuse, Wcstchcster-Hiltmorc Club. -M-lentown, Pa., Lancaster, Pa., F'lem ington, N. J., and Montreal applied for the Eastern Zone as well as the" New York A. C. The shoot will be held -May 10, 11, 12 Picking New York for the Eastern complete he zone tournament selection. In this i con nectionif niiirht He nddpd that Indications are that h will neces sary for a tdiooter to fire at 1,000 targets before he can enter the uranu American. The idea of "this is to prevent men of unknown aver age to participate and win.- I't will be possible to secure registration for all shoots, this year, that is for a tournament of any where from fiO to .i00 targets in one day. This looks like a mighty good move. It is also likely that the 18 yard? champion ships will be dropped. Whv, doio t a. ,o ', Jo .. n..uv, I.,.- tne io ynrus event draws just as many shooters as the 10 and it would not be a bad move to make the standard shooting dis tance IS yards. The five-man .t?am rwe.as .conducted last year -will be! eliminated from the G. A. IL.pro-gra-m. Hereafter - a man who' has shot? as a professional will have to w-ait vtwo years before he can return as an. amateur You can always get an argument on whether a man can be an. amateur after once being a professional. We personally believe that lifter a man is once a pro fessional that he cannot again he an amateur. The Amateur orgtsr.ization have worked out a new system of classes for 100 shooters and over and under that number and Class A will be OK and better and Double A will be 99 or better.
