And Still We Are Thankful
Another year has rolled around since the Presidents
proclamation a year ago asked this nation to partake ol
Thanksgiving and today we find many things for which
we should be thankful.
Our problems are many and they are complex, but in
reality when it comes to an existence we have nothing ti
worry about. We worry because our worldly possession
do not turn out as we had hoped they would We worry
because of social or political problems, but when it comet
to feeding the inner man and having a fire to warm us
having clothes to cover us, how many people in Unioi
county are suffering-'
None' It gets back to that statement telling of peo
ple's desire to become rich in a year. No longer is a goo
living and a possibility of a saving margin besides consid
and worh while. We feel we are not doing anything miles;
we can pile up wealth. It is a pitv, but it is true.
Today, let us drop for a few hours these thoughts of
wealth and position. Let us think ol the better and noblei
things of life; let "us be spiritually minded, at least unli
the big turkey dinner is served, lint, in beinir spiritua
minded, do not feel that you must be sad. The joy oi
Thanksgiving-is a peculiar joy it radiatesand should be
contagious. It is the sweet satisfaction of being permittee'.

Driven almost to exasperation on account of lack of
settlers leading men in the Oehoco project, together with
Prineville business men and railroad officials of the O.-VY.,
jointly formed a plan to send a colonizer into Wisconsin
and secure settlers" for this fertile nrta. This was pro
gressing well and a number of Lutheran families had for
mulated a colony to come to Oregon when the news of the
late election reacl'd Wisconsin.
Ling! It was al off! No Lutheran families would
think of entering a state to make their homes where the
compulsory school bill prevailed.
As a result Prineville has lost a lot of prospective
citizens, the Oehoco project will have to look elsewhere
for people and Oregon as a state suffers a setback in busi
ness and population which cannot be denied.
