AN ALLEGORY.
triuniuicr is a wod season for fairy laics.
Once upon a time there was a fcivat round world
whose people had discovered a kind of little brown pills
iwlilose first effect, made them lmpixy, care-free and forget
ful of their troubles. Taken in excess, the little brown
pills had a very distressing effect of lowering the morals
and finally inducing unconsciousness. Taken in small
amounts over a long time, they broke down mind and
Jjody, leaving the sloul no tools to function with.
"One. might think the poison pills would have been
forbidden by Jaw soon after their discovery, but such was
the stupidity of these people that they were willing to
take all the dread full consequences rather than lose that
feeling of ease and frccilloni from cafe produced-in the
first few minutes after taking.
Finally one nation was brave enough to break away
from the little brown pills, It made a law that thcty were
jiot to he made or sold or imported within its coijl'incs.
Alios t of the people were wise and kept 1 lie law. JJul
a few thousands were foolish and' bad and always trying
to break it, and they made a loud noise.
This nation owned ships. And the ships of other na
tions were allowed tt sell the little brown pills, so some
people preferred to ride on the foreign ships.
And the man avIio was boss of the wise nation's ships
wiidif they couldn't be allowed to stfll little brown p'oison
pills, the other ships would get the trade.
And on that funny planet, people supposed to have
brains are still disputing as to whether it is better to en
courage the selling of Unison pills which bring disease,
death, poverty and a'll kinds of misery, or to lose a little'
temporary trade.
