J. W. Scott, who was decidedly un
der the weather for a week or ten
days, is feeling himself airain,
Howard Stairctt took a lay-off sev
eral days on account of illness, Mrs.
Cooper of Kumcla worked as second
trick operator in his place, and re
turned to her home on Friday.
Mis. Baldizor, who has been spend
ing the -past few weeks in Kameln,
returned to hor homo hero on Satur
day. A very pleasant dance took place
here on Saturday night und eveiyone
enjoyed themselves hugely. Delicious
refreshments consisting of oysters,
home-made cakv and coffee were serv
ed. Unusually excellent music ad. led
much to the evening.
S.verul cars anil wagon outfits
have passed through Hilguuf the past
two or three clays attemnting to cross
the mountains to Pendleton. Some
are still camped on this side waiting
until the loads are passable. One or
two ears went on and teams this side
of Kamcla are endeavoring to get
them through, but with little success.
Others have turned back in order to
ship over, which is the only sensible
way. One car was shipped out of
Hilguid Sunday. The road is so very
bad that it is considered inipassab'o.
Nearly everyone started sprinjr
plowing the past week.

the loyalty of Mr. Williams and is opposed to his
re-election as republiean national eoniniit.teeman,"
said Thomas II. Tongue, Jr., republican state chair
man. "While in Portland on business yesterday State
Chairman Tongue took -occasion to give the rumor
"one on the chin." . '
"I know this report to be absolutely false and
untrue," continued Mr. Tjongue. "The story is un
authorized, unfathered and underhanded. It is el
ection propaganda pure- ami simple, created for a
purpose, and should not mislead the friends of Sena
tor McNaiv or anyone else."
Part in Contest Denied.
"In a telegram to me, bearing date of April 22,
1022, Senator .Mc Nary said:
" 'Am taking no part in contest for national
committeeman nor in any other political contest, in
deed, no one has ever requested an expression from
me concerning any of the candidates and 1 have au
thorized no one to speak f r me.'
"I positively know from recent correspondence

the loyalty of Mr. Williams, but feels exceedingly
friendly to him.
