Until have recently mifieii'd from flu and Mrs. Foster is still not fully recovered. About 35 Joseph people, mem bers of Joseph CliaptUr No. 67, O. K. S., accepted an invitation to meet with Ihii Enterprise chapter Tnes dsy evening. Officers of Joseph chapter initiated Mrs. l.lla Chee mun Into the chapter. The work was nicely done and received great praise from Knterpriso members. After chapter closed there was o delightful social hour und dainty refreshnii uts were served. When W. K I'ltlengcr anil J. A. Wetzel went nut to shoot squirrels on the lake hills south of Joseph they were not searching for as much adventure as lull to their lot. They saw u band of 12 dCer feed ing on the hills, driven down from the mountains because of. deep snow; There are supposed, to havevbeeii' ai number of deer in the mountains In late years, though for yt.vjrs they were very scarce. I.ato years small numbers have been reported from time to time but this was the ; largest band ever reported nnd an unusual number to be seen so closo to a settlenui.it. There is a report of large numbers of deer being killed; by wolves this .winter in the mounlaina. Snow 1n Wallowa county Is fast disappearing. W're subjected to frequent snowstorms at that, as the old winter had no place ;to go nnd was quite determined to stay on for i a time. We suppose Prairie creek ' farmers will have some heavy dam-' age suits on their hands for fall ing to have their snow melt more 1 slowly as low ground was badly! flooded lant week. Houds are ul-j most impassable except on tho high-1 ways and 'we cannot all keep to them. Spring plowing seems a few: ivsrts In the future as yet. Win-' , ter wheat Is in fiood. shape, though' mere was naruiy much as usual blown last fall owing to the dry autumn. The largo crop of hay harvested proved a great blessing during the! late spring and silos are holding a big place In the dairy man's heart. fSnPrl.tl In Tim nKaArua.m SI'M.MKllVILI.K, Mar. 30. Jus. We are glad lie nskod this question. Perhaps you, too, would like to know -why. Here Is our" answer: It Is not sufficient that we merely give good service, bo courteous ajnd make friends. We want to dispel prejudice and misunderstanding from the mind of tho public by continuant statinu the facta about our lusineKi Wo believet ov r duty to let the public, knw lie real na ture of our blsiii ss and the aims and Idejfc if ,thn men engaged in rta$ ibuskaess. There is no niyttury about It, nothing that wA would wish to cover up. Theilwhy not nd- vertlse it? Like' the man on the witness stand we can say: "It's the tell tho truth where there is tell the truth -when there is nothing but the truth to tell.'' L 0. L. & P. Co. !i PROSPERITY A state, community or city can never grow fast er than her utilities, or extend further than they reach. The prosperity of a city or town, its alertness, its up-to-date methods, its progressiveness, in fact, its very chXracteJr are reflected directly to the ex tent that thfiy exist in its utilities. Likewise, show me a city with, broken down, unhealthy and restrict ed utilities ajul I skall show you a city living in the backwoods of aviliiation, with no parks, improved streets or alleyswibi unkept homes and unimprov ed public buildings; Without civic pride andl self-res-pct, and withal aSlppshod1, shiftless, dozing, indif ferent population a mighty poor and unattractive place to live and do business.
