The time was well spent in filay'ns
cards and dancing. At the close of
the evening's entertainment a delic
ious luncheon was served in cafeteria
style by the charming hostew. The
merrymaking lasted until the wee
hours of the morning. Those present
were Mr. and Mrs. John Skill:ngs, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Blanchard, Mr. and
Mrs. Dean, Roy Gam, 'Mr. Wakefield,
W. D, Perry and Miss Dortha Swain.
Mrs. Blanchard and Mrs. Dean were
joint hostesses for the evenMK-
Mrs. Archie Keown visited at the
home of Mrs. Walker Tuesday.
The Pythian Sisters have invitnti ms
out for a social time Friday evening
in the Amusement hall. The t'mo will
be spent in dancing and card playing.
Mr. Hurley and his son spent the
week-end in La Grande, where they
had some dental work done.
Two of the Eastern Oregon Music
comoany's representatives were in
Imbler recently. They made three
phonograph sales while here.

Lees, parachute expert and antartic
explorer and H. Crisp, both of the
British Air .Mission In Japan, are
the first climbers ever to reach the
summit of Mount Fuji rfii. mld-wn-ter.
Mujor Orde Lees Is an experienced
alpinist but the performance was
rendered remarkable owing to the
fact that Mr. . Crisp Is a Londoner
with no former experience of moun
tain climbing.
Mt. Fuji Is 12.395 feet high. The
climb necessitated sleeping for two
nights In n hut at 4,700 feet: The
isiiow extended from the summit
idown to 25(10 feet. The last 4000
J feet below the Hummll consisted of
solid ice. This portion of the climb
! occupied nine hours.
The summit was reached nt 7 p.
m. February 12. The whole of the
j descent was mucin In a dense fog
during the night. A violent storm
'raged all through (he first night.

throughout the expedition.

lisle one flight to Scotland. Major

of motor sledges. Hei has made
81 parachute drops from aeroplanes
with a view to perfecting .aerial life
saving.
