Joseph pave a ' community dinner Monday nitflit in honor of the champion basic 3ltull I team of tho eighth district. For a while JoRpph held third place in the district and Boomed in a fair way to lose out. When it was found they had to win the last three games, all hard onesone with Haines, who had wnn from them ut Haines, and the other two with Knlerpri.se, whose team was in the lead and would hold first place if Joseph lost even one of the three games. Joseph won out against Haines February 17 and the contest narrowed' down and became of the most intens einterest in the valley. On March 4 th a game was played at Joseph before the largest crowd of the season and resulted in a complete victory for Joseph, with a score of 41' to 110. The following week basketball held the center of the stage in both towns and despite bad mads a large number of people from Joseph went down to Enterprise Saturday evening. Mnrch U, to cheer the team. Roth teams were nervous ibut nevertheless one of the hardest games of the season was played, with Enterprise mostly in the lead, but al ways so close that until the last mo ment the decision was uncertain. When the score stood nt 2$ to 28, Mays of Joseph made a basket just as n foul was called on Enterprise; Joseph lost that basket but McCulIy, with the free throw, made the basket just be fore time was called, leaving Joseph the victors by one point. The Enterprise lads were game and havo the admiration of both towns for their sportsmanlike losing. At the dinner all basketball hoy were given seats of honor, the second (team having worked as hard as thrt first in the training.
