I have read an article reprinted from the Corvallis Guzette- Timos in The Journal of December 29. There has been considerable oppoHi lion in Eastern 'Oregon to tho propo- ; viticm that the state be taxed $3,000,-' 000 for the purpose of providing for the proposed 1925 fair at Portland The real basis for this opposition is that a large majority, of the taxpay- eis of Eastern Oregon feel that the limit has been reached in taxation. farmers and stockmen all over East- crn Oregon are in a very bad condi tion financially, and by reason thereof merchants and business men are up against the real thing. Therefore, about all the taxpayers feel that re trenchment and not cxpanison is the' need of the hour.
