LflSTIKE LIGHTS OUT OF ORDER (Special to Tho Obacrver) LOSTINK, Dee. 23. iLast Friday morninp one of tho big copper electric power wires broke at u spiicinjr on top of tho Iewis hill, just cast of town, and caused considerable trouble for t timo. It was in tho early mornimr, pbout six o'clock, that it broke and just before some of the people nearby were up. Floyd Hammock found no light but got a shock from touching the socket of the kitchen light when he went out there to see if it would light. Mrs., Hummock then went to the telephone and called for .lay L?w is, who lives at the foot of the hill and has an electric transformer in front of his house, to inquire of light con ditions there, and while 'Mr. Lewis held tho receiver in one hand he turn ed to the light' bulb with the other hand to investigate and thereby b:-; came a human connecting medium for the electricity, as tho telephone lire was heavily charged from the 'uruken iwiie crossing it, and Mr. Lewis got Buch a Khock he waa unconscious for a short time. The current that passed through his body burned out the fuse on that line in central office, and, as he fell to the floor, his hold broke loose from the receiver and bulb or it would have been fatal for htm. As it was, his hands weie badly burned, Theodore LuCert, working at M. O. Courtney's dairy lanch, found some thing had gone wrong with the lights in the barn, lie thought the bu!h was burning out and reached for it ti un scrtw it to put in another. As he wait standing on the damp floor h;, too, got a pretty severe shock. Il's fin gers were badly burned and the I'tfects of the shock caused him to double up and finally fall to the floor and that broko his hold. Mr. and Mrs; Court ney and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Jackson, living near Lewis aso got light shocks and I. W. MatJee said it had strange effects ut his home east of the hill.
