(Special) Mon day evening the Baker Chamber of Commerce. despite the storm, arrived oi time and wan entertained by the I Union Commercial club at the Union Hotel. The object of the meeting was a get-together meeting between Ba ker business men and the Union busi. liens men. A even o'clock dinner was served In the Union Hotel grill Chairman Tuny I). Smith, past mayor of Union, presided at the meeting art PreHidtnt of the Union Commercial club and kept the a-s.Hemblage full of pep with u running attack of short talks given by both Baker and Union men. A very successful meeting wa held, both Union and Baker men re sponding to the get-together feeling. The Buker band and orchestra ac companied the Baker aggregation, which numbered ubout fifty, and the musical units dispensed some splendid music between toants. The . meeting broko ap at about twelve o'clock after upending about two hours dancing in the hotel parlor and was pronounced a success . by all present. The result of this meeting leave a far mote friendly feeling prevalent between the Chambers of Com me re of the two citicn and points toward h Home joint achievements in the nea future. With the postponement of the Kl- gir -Union game, scheduled to bo played at Union, the 11)21 football season was ushered out at Union. In looking over the past season consid erable satisfaction is felt. Although Union wus defeated overwhelmingly hy Baker and La lirande, she played both Enterprise and Wallowa to a tie and at the last of the season was one of the most formidable teams in Union and Wallowa counties. With a rten team Coach Billings, ufter con siderable shifting of men and schemes for better team work found a com bination, that worked like clock work and made up for the poor work in the beginning of the Reason. In the Inst foum games Union won one, lost one, and tied two. Next year s team will suffer by the graduation of Dal len, Cook, Johnson, Kuhn, Chadwick and Kielblock, but much promising material wai developed on the second team. With the advent of next week the basket ball reason opens in Union high school. Practice will probabl begin Monday evening ut Smith's hail or at the latest Tuesday or Wednes day. Coach Billings expects a win ning quintet this year as only one of last yvarVi team Is absent from the line-up and Union won eleven out of twenty association games last year. An epidemic of colds and an infla m::tion of the ryes commonly called "I ink-eye." is prevalent in Union at present. This is attributed to tho sud lien change of weather in the last veck. Reports come in from the outskirts of Union that during the heavy snow iall as many as two or three score of pheasants were found roosting in one tree. The "pep" committee of tho Ad Club, headed by Dr. Ituy Murphy, has increased the "vocabularyf' of its songs, and last evening instituted a series of rehearsals intended to de velop the committee into a state where concert numbers can be render ed on short notice. Heretofore tho committee has concerned itself pri. marily with leading singing at ban quets and Ad Club meetings but Dr. Murphy has higher ambitions than that. The personnel of the men': chorus will vary from time to time, with approximately! sixteen us the basis. The better standards of music will be sung upon occasions from time to time. David I. Stoddard is leader and rehearsnls are held in the East ern Oregon Music company's store. When the Ad Club chorus is fully developed and a repertoire of concert numbers mastered, there will be two men's choruses In the city, the Men's Ciub of tho Methodist church having already initiated such an organiza tion. With but little preparation a combined chorus would give l.i Grande a group of about .'10 men able to sing standard concert selections.
