City Paying Warrants
Mrs. E. M. Fowler, city treasurer,
announced today that a call has keen
sent for all general warrants of the
city of La Grande. This will pay all
general warrants to date.

Mrs. Frederick G. Schilke, formerly
president of the Oregon Congress of
Mothers, is at the Imperial from La
Grnnde. She is planning to attend the
Couch Parent-Teacher dinner to be
given this evning at the Benson

night and came home on the train

party much. This morning they left
for Joseph on the branch line train
and there they expect to meet R. W.

quarters here, and drive down as far
as possible and catch the train back
somewhere along the way. Tomor
row morning they will leave here for
Burns, Ontario, and thence into tho
entral part of the state to Bend and
other points.
Castle Five Dance
The Castle Five. Orchestra will
open Ha season with a dance at
Rex. hall this vonlng, and a spec
ial prograui of dance music is be
ing arranged for the occasion. The
boys ar all home La Orande boyas
and each Is an artist on the In
strument of his choice. It is the
intention of the orchestra to ruu

PORTLAND, May 20. The Wil
lamette river was 18.2 'feet hero to
day. The river dropped at hugene,
and Albany, and is sti:ionary a,t Sa
lem and Oregen City. The rise is due
to the backwater from the Columbia.
A stage of 20.8 feet is predicted here
for Sunday. The Columbia continues
to rise. ,
At The Dalles, the Columbia was
reported at 32.4 feet. This Is a riso of
2.14 feet since yesterday. Squatters
buildings at Tho Dalles have been
flooded.
A rise in the Columbia at Wen-
atchee, Lcwiston and Umatiln has al
so been reported.
Forecaster Wells said that 'he WH-
amette here might reach the twenty-
five toot mark. Warnings havo been
eiven in all of the danger nones.
