Farm Directors Meeting
A meeting of the executive board
of the farm bureau will be held at
seven o'clock Saturday evening in the
office of the county , agent, on the
second flqor of the post office build
ing. The meeting has been 'called
half an hour early in order to give all
a chance to get to the concert by the
New York Philharmonic orchestra.
Hunt Drilling Outfit Sold
The deep . well near the city
reservoir which was for the pur
pose of prospecting for a water
supply is a thing of the past. Mr.
Hunt's drilling rig. which was em
ployed to drill the well, is being
loaded today and shipped to Utah
whore it will be used for oil pros,
peeling. The well was sunk only
a short distance when trouble was
oncountcrod and the projoct aban
doned. It is understood that Utah
people bought the drilling rig.
Walter Pierce iu Portland
Presumably, he wants to be gov
ernor, at least that is the rumor
current regarding his political am
bltious. Ho is a democrat and his
name is Walter M. Plorco. For
mer Senator Tierce arrived from
La Grande yesterday and Is' regis
tered at the Hotol Oregon. Sena
tor Piorce is an extensive wheat
grower and has a fancy for wbllo

The ordinance providing for amend
ments to Uic city charter, to be vot

day. The various amendments were

School Tax 'Apportioned
The spring apportionment of school
money has been completed by Mrs
A. E. lvanhoe, county superintendent
of schools. A total of fJ2,377.24 was
apportionrdf This money does not in
clude the special school tax which is
paid directly by the county treasurer
to the school districts, nor the special
two-mill school fund tax which will
be apportioned soon.

qualified veteran of the world war
may borrow from the state up to
$3,000, or may receive a cash bonus of
$15 a month for the lime he was in
service, but not to exceed $500. This
act would be. ineffective for lack of
funds should the proposed constitu
tional amendment fail to pass. While
the constitutional amendment author
izes loans in amounts .up U $4,000, the
act passed by tnc legislature fixes the
maximum loan at $3,000, therefore
$.'1,000 would be the largest amount a
veteran could borrow.
