On Sunday morning October 12, the department was culle on to arrest sonic parties aboard pas seneer train No. 17, westbound, sus pected of robbing a bank in Sprinpy ville, Utah. The arrest was made uoU withstanding the fact that the depart I ment received notice only twelve min utes before train time. These prison ers were tuVned over to the Utah au thorities who feel confident they are part of a gang that has been operating in different parts of the West. The street force in addition to the usual routine work has been employed in making repairs to streets and cross walks and otherwise getting things In shape for the winter. Some repairs wero also made on the floor of the Second street viaduct by setting in pieces of plank where old ones were worn through. It is the opinion of tho city engineer, the street superintend ent and myself that repairs of this character from time to time will keep tho floor of the viaduct in pretty good shape until next year, when it will probably be necessury to put on a new floor. The water department reports two new taps for tho week ond the repair of a number of meters ns well as the installation of a number of new meter boxes or tiles. The force nt the in take is progressing with the new dnm nnd it is expected that the cement work will be completed by the end of this week.
