Not so very long ago the discovery was made that im-tal could he sawed easier and quicker with niiilty revolv ing smooth disks of steel than with toothed circular saws. It was found that the cutting was done by uc. heat generated by the friction of the i-,2 of the disk against the metal. The metal Is melted nt the point of con tact w ulle the "steel of the disk, being cooled by the air. does not reach the melting point. The disks need no sharpening and do not wear out so quiekly as the toothed saws heretofore used for cutting metal.
