In adiiition to the regular work in tin street department it has heen ne cenpary to repair and rebuild a num ber of crosswalks daniaied by heav trucks hauling for the state highways The HtreOt supvriiitendenl is endeav oring to protect the crosswalks a ; much an poH.siblo by placing jnvel on same and in other ways. We havo asked for bids nn construct ion of con crete crosswalks as surest ed by the Commission last week. The bids lire submitted herewith. A number of leaks have been re paired in the water mains and two now taps installed. A clog in the newer on Jefferson avenue, bctweeh Kir and Hemlock streets was also op ened up. A trip was made to t he intake to get measurements on the suggested new dam some ln(l fre'. above the present intake dam.'" It ft'ffr' found that the elevation of this point above the present intake is 20.X feet. A dam enuld be constructed at thi;. point with a width of about :tr feet but there is some (piestion whether the expense would be justified as th increased flow would not exceed 100, 000 gallons per 21 hours. The rebuild ing of the darn at the present intake will be a considerable undertaking, ac cording1 to the engineer and contractor who examined same. There does not appear to be any nnl'.t rock formation at this point to which to tie the darr without going entirely across the can yon, which is some 120 fuet. An effort is being made to further repair the present dnm so as to hold all the wale: that is flowing in the stream. A phone message from Mr. Kelsey stated that he is mailing plans for a new dam, and will be here again the latter part of next week. Kespect fully submitted, JOHN COIXIKU, Manager.
