I PEMNGS ; 1 Losses Figure I'p The losses at the Julius Fisher home are running higher as Mr. and Mrs. Fisher sail to mind the number of things missing, due t a recent rob ery. The list now includes four six shooters, four elk teeth, several $2.50 gold pieces, two of which were mount ed, Mr. Fisher's gold watch and Mrs. Fisher's gold watch which had diu mond settings. It is believed that th house-breaking was the work of boys and so close are the officers on theiv trail that it is expected developments will begin to happen within a few days. Carnival Arranged I'ur lioili Plan3 for a carnival attraction, to be held the evening of Wednesday. AuguBt 20th, have been Inaugurated by the Young People's Society of the Presbyterian chtpch and ere be ing rapidly carried to completion. The list of attractions will be an elaborate one and the working com mittees already have them well map ped out. The carnival will b? hek1 on the church grounds, where tents will be elected for the several do partiuents of the circus. Fuller an councement concerning the prograi will bo mado in, a few days. Soldiers Pass Through City Three coaches of overseas men were attached to No. 17 yesterday morning, en Toute to Camp Lewis for discharge. There were about 100 men of casual companies. Several men of this val ley were among the troops. As usual the canteen ladies were there with the best of ''cats" which were fully ap preciated by the men. Richard Shanks , a former La Grande man, and Pvt Harris of Elgin, were also aboard. Social Realized Well The ice o:eam eioeial held Fridaj evening at tho residence of V. J. Rowland, 1202 N. Avenue, under thr auspices of the Christian Church Sunday School, w-s a very pleasing success. Local Hoy On Way Home Word was received a few days ag stating that Charles Bradley, a former La Grande boy, is on his way home from France and Other foreign coun tries. He has been in the service for over two years with the U. S. navy on the U. S. S. Rochester. He is ex pected to arrive in La Grande on any train. His many friends will bo glad to. welcome him back again. Leaves For Eastern Points .Mrs. J. C. Murphy left Thursday accompanied by her four children, for Rochester, Minn., for consultation at the Mayo Bros.' clinic regarding her health. While east she will visit her mother at Galesville, Wis., and her sister nt Esterville, Iowa. La Grande Loses Fine Family Conductor Ed. Cross has been trans ferred to The Dalles and tomorrow his family will leave to make their home in that city. Ed. is well known to ev eryone here and is well liked, and Mrs. Cross Is very prominent In lodge and social circles. La Grande people re gret very much to lose the Cross fam ily but wish them prosperity and hap piness in The Dalles. Give Dance Tomorrow Night A number of the young men of the city are giving a dance at Zuber hall tomorrow evening, returning the com pliment extended to them recently by several of the young ladies of the O.-W. offices, who honored them by invitations to a dance at Riverside Park. Bills are out for the event. Leo McDowell Lands Word was received yesterday morn ing that Ioo McDowell, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. McDowell of. this city, landed in New York Friday. He Is a member of the Second Egineers of the Second Division, having been overseas nearly two years. He is expected to arrive home in a few days. Gene to Baker Johnnie O'Connell left yesterday af ternoon for Baker, to remain over Sun day with friends. News of Death of Mrs. Burd The news was received by telegram here yesterday of the death of Mrs. George Burd, of Seattle. She passed away Friday morning, f illowing an opeiatioft. Mrs. Burd will be well re membered by many here, as she was a Union county girl nnd resided in 1-a Grande for a number of years after her marriage. She leaves to mourn her, the husband nnd their two daugh ters, who live in Seattle. On a Visit to California Mr. and Mrs. Thos. 1). Johnson left this morning for San Francisco.
