McetH Sister After Long Alsor C. W. Amey and son, Gene Amey, drove down from Enterprise in their new Hayncs car yesterday to meet Mrs. Amey on hei return from Cali fornia, where she had' been spending tho past four months. Mrs. Amey was accompanied from California by Mr. Amey's sister, who had not seen hor brother for twenty-three years. They are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Fowler during their stay in La Grande. Fined Twenty-Five and Cost Fred Holllnger and J.' I. Bailey were each fined twenty-five dollars and costs when they came up in police court yesterday afternoon to answer a charge of disorderly con duct while intoxicated. They were the men who smashed up the Jail furniture while they were Incarcer ated in the "bull pen" Saturday night, , Covo Lad to Attend Hill Royal Conley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Conley of Cove, who have many friends in La Grande, will go , to Portland in September to attend Hill Military Academy. The, lad wan a student there last Semester and did wejtl in his studies and in military , drill and also was popular in athletic circles and at the social gatherings for the young set of Portland. Married nt La Grande . John A. Hall and Mrs. Ellrabeth Kelly left yesterday for La Grande by automobile, where they were to be married. Mr. Hall has a home near the city reservoir and Is engaged in selling Ice. Mrs. Kelly is a well ' known Baker woman, having lived ' here many yeais. Baker Herald. Motor Here From Eagle Valley i Mr. and Mrs. Bob Masterson ar- rived in the city yesterday from Eagle : Valley to visit for a few days with rel atives and friends. They made the ' trip in a newly purchased Liberty car. ' Mission Band Meets Tomorrow . : The Mission Band of tho Presbyter ; ian church will meet tomorrow (Wed ; ncsday) afternoon at the homo of Miss Dorothy Caldwell, 402 Adams avenue, at 2:30 o'clock. Red Cross Drug Store Ik GAss Fire Calls Brigade A grass rfire starting near the rear nf it residence bevond the high school on Fourth street, was responsible fo? the ringiier of the alarm just after 1 o'clock, Jpday. The brigade made- the run in good time but found on arrival that the blare had bn put out. A mimber of volunteers answered the call? and travelling up Fourth street after the fitt truck were somewhat delayed by other rigs'that held the street in front of them. The firftnen make a special request tlois when an alarm has been, sounded the public keep off the route of the truck until the whole brigade has passed. Acci dents and near-accidents hove resulted frequently from th carelessness of drivers of other cars. People should keep to the sidewalks and curbs, also, at such times, for speeding cars are hard things to dodgt. Se Teaches at Paler Juaction Miss Iverna Brown, who follows the ancient and honorable profession of training the community youngsters who attend public school, is in the city today. Her school is located at Palmer Junction and will- reopen lor the new term on August 18. She was a caller this afternoon at the office of Mrs. A. E. Ivarihoc, county school su perintendent. Comes In From Elgin H. A. Galloway, young man of the Elgin district, who has been engaged by school district No. 30, near Elgin, to teach that school during the next term, spent the day in La Grande on business. Mrs. Wilhelm Visiting Friends Mrs. Frani Wilhelm arrived in La Grande today from the east, where she has been on business. She will be here with friends a few days before returning to her commercial pursuit; in the Willamette valley. Home From Elgin- Miss Bessie Stoddard arrived home Monday evening from Elfin, where she has been visiting for the past two weeks with her sister, Mrs. George Vehrs. Gone to Portland Miss Ethel Wright left Monday ev ening for Portland, to spend a few days visiting friends. ViBiting In Spokane Harold Lindley left last night for Spokane to be gone about ten days visiting witn irienas and relatives. Buys New Car Walter M. Had Narrow Escape ' A narrow escape was had yesterday, when two cars, One driven by Mrs, Robbs and the other driven by Mrs. Hutchinson, collided at the intersection of Washington avenue and Depot street. Only slight damages to the cars-resulted. As an accident always draws a crowd, Miss Bessie Bachelor drove by at a rate of speed higher than the limit and was arrested for speed ing.
