in the High school auditorium and the

Geo. T. Cochran left last night for
Hood River, where he will spend some
time taking testimony in connection
with water rights for adjudication.
Mr. Cochran is water superintendent
for the eastern district. Mr. Cochran
was accompanied to Hood River ,by
Rhea Luper, assistant state engineer.
Mr. Luper had been working in this
part of tho state for the past couple
of weeks and came in to La Grande
Satut .ay evening.

La Grande's Team Has Been Consid
erably Improved Tie Will Be
Played Off Wednesday.

game at Cove that promised to be a
good exhibition. 'La Grande's team
was considerably changed about and
showed market improvement, great
improvement in fact. Kelly made his
debut as pitcher and had a great deal
of smoke, fanning the Coveites with
regularity. Pidcock was back at his
old job as catcher, and in addition.
got two lusty clouts, one in the first
inning scoring two men. Woods was
on first in his usual spanny style,
and Price held down second. McMil
lan, who was playing without practice
was at short and Bud Garrity was on
third. The infield is in fine condition
now as compared with the previous
week and should, with more practice
be fully up to requirements of an am
ateur team. Childers seems to have
found a regular gait at batting, get
ting a good clout Sunday before tin?
rain broke up the game. Bossier was
in center field and Carrol in right, the
latter getting a clean hit early in the
game. The crowd was disnppointed
at the weather, for it promised to be a
fine exhibition.
The two teams will play off the tie
in connection with tho soldier recop
tion here Wednesday, the game being
called for 1 o'clock.
Manager Scranton has reasons to
feel much elated over the prospects of
a much better team than the season

Tomorrow's Ad Club luncheon will
be a mixture of business and enter
tainment. There will be a sprinkling
of male quartet music for the occas
ion, among other things. The mattci

will come up for consideration.
As there is much to be done, and
the session will close promptly at 1
o'clock, it behooves all to be prompt
