nal will be of local interest inasmuch
as Dr. Karkeet was formerly with the
Hot Lake Sanatorium. The Journa'
says:
Cut off from other escape by flames
eating their way through the upstairs
hall of his home. Dr. Robert H. Kar
keet of 192H Beuhln Vista terrace,
King's Heights, jumped from tho sec
ond story window of his home this
morning with a child under each arm.
Mrs. Karkeet, confused by smoke
and unable to reach the stairs, then
slid down a low roof and dropped, al
most fniting from smoke and fright
into her husband's arms.
The doctor .and his wife were awak
ened by smoke. Mrs. Karkeet attempt
ed to run down the stairs to tho street,
while Karkeet ran to the children's
room through the flames, but before he
could get back with the children, his
way was cut off. Dr. Karkeet grabbed'
a loaded revolver, fired all the shots
with tho hope of arousing the neigh
bors and then jumped out of the win
dow with the children.
The wife had run back, in the mean
time, and climbed from a window to
the coof over the kitchen.
