James Gekeler, who has been sta
tioned in New York ylnce the signing
of the armistice, passed through La
Grande enroute to his home in Elgin,
last night. Mr. Gekeler Is only home
on a fui lough and will return to his
camp shortly.
A ploisant surprise party was giv
en at the home of Mr. and Mi-s. Rob
ert Deal last night. Mr. Deal was
taken entirely by surprise. The
evening was spent in games and
. merry making and at the proper
hour a delicious lunch wis served
by Mrs. Deal. The guests returned
to their homos at a late hour, re
gretting that the time had passed
so quickly.

BOIL DRINKING WATER
. Owing to the shortage of water at
Heaver creek it is now necessary to
get part of the supply from the
- Grande Konde river. All water needed
for drinking purposes should be boiled
- as a precaution against germs or con
tamination. While the conditions at
the river are much improved ovei for
mer years, there being now little or
no chance for contamination from the i FOUND

board urges boiling of drinking wa'er
ds a precautionary measure.
