Trade Early in Day. '. K. Short, of theJ. C. Penney company, revif'wed the sitiiatioii, 'calling attention to.tlie fact that holidav buiness would necessarily be greatly impaired, Tio matter how tjie rulings wcre'niaile, ami he suggested that a cam paign of education be started at once urging people to shop earlier in the day, to prevent crowding at counters, to in crease Sales forces so that no one would have to wait for goods, and to l'op tliQ people moving through the stores I of the city-. This coul1 be brought alut, he said' by pla cards, and possibly a special employe; on the floor of each : store to- diift the j'0ple. j .L (1. Snodgrass expressed his desire to co-opernto and j was willing to leave the entire mutter up to the-eity board of health. This put it in shape so that the commission hav i ing issued, hard and fast orders which would impair the I board of health's free hand to work out the solution, and i it was apparent that the only proper thing to do was to ask j the city commission to rescind its orders and join the busi ; nes.s men and others of La Grande in support of the city board of health, thus letting that tribunal handle the mat ter in its every de'tail. To this end the following resolution was' adopted: L'esolved, ly the business men of La Grande herein assembled, that it is our wish and desire to do everything in our power to assist in abating and stamping out the pre vailing epidemic of influenza; that we earnestly request the city commission of La Grande to" rescind orders per taining to rulings. on quarantine and the handling of the influenza situation, turning the entire matter over to the city board of health, which hoard will then lie unfettered iv prior orders and be free to act according to the wisdom and judgment of the board; be it further L'esolved, That we, as business men of La Grande,! have perfect confidence in the city hoard of health and do! hereby pledge our loyal support and co-operation to anyi ruling or order made and promulgated bv said board.
