Who is at fault? Why should the boys and girls be flooding the juvenile courts in a rural community such us Eastern Oregon? Today's news stories Ull of a lny and girl, mere children, caught in a raid on a rooming hou.se. Also the waywardness of a Baker girl caught hero in her flight from homo is re corded. The events of thin nature are with us on Sunday ufternoon to the ; tpgS ... . - Sl postoffice. in the omroiTubJy heated lobby we will find numerous boys and girls wh$'have made the federal build ing their looting place. TlTele js something surrounding- the places intended for social meeting that prevents many young people from using them. Just what, we will not attempt to say without thg report of an investigating committee. Th Jioys and girls who meat at the federal building are not normally bad. The girts prize their virtue and pro tect it witli the natural protection of .the female. But the postoffice meet ing only serves to "make dates" for later engagements. These meetings may be any place, but quite frequent ly the young folks finally land in, a cheap dance hall once or twice a week where restraint is not heavy. After the ball is over is when the first dam1 age is usually done and once the step ic taken then the "velvet purity is lost from the peach" and brazenness fol lows. Effeminate profanity is ono of the developments of such cases, and when you hear a woman swear that woman is on the skids und going pret ty fast. Tho brazen "fhizie" is the product that comes from the process above de scribed and that process begins with the young people not having a com munity house, a municipal dance hall, or some place where they feel they are a part of the1 institution. Their first meeting, in many instances, as we have said, is staged at the postoffice and from there the youngsters begin their social career. Not bad ones at heart, not at all. Girls who have 'felt keenly tho social caste which exists, have n'ot found a place for themselves. As a result they have' slipped and. drifted. The public dance hall has been their only amusement. It is a tragedy right here at home! and when you read of juvenile cases not scorn tho youngsters; .let us I al take some of the blame for not; having made an effort to protect our' neighbor's child tho same as wo pro tect our own.
