There, after a bitter struggle, she succeeds in win ning fame and fortune in comic opera, j . In her earlier struggles she has never forgotten her helpless husband, sending him more than she could well spare. On the night of her triumph Bhe faces two grent crises. The man who has brought her to fame demands his price, and she spurns him, realiz ing what it means to her. The same night Bhe gets a letter saying an im mediate operation, which will cost a lot of money, is imperative to save: her husband's life. She then tells her manager she is prepared to pay tho price, but he proves more a man, than he knew himself to be and does not demand it. Her earnings restore her husband to health, and he then spurns her, saying no woman could win such fame as hers and remain good. All love for husband then dead, she returns to New York to her manager and aguln she sends him away, but this time he is happy in her promise that when she is free she will send for him to return to make her his wife.
