Moro regrettable, in the estimation of the Democratic New York World, tliun uny political chunges that have taken pnco is the spirit of partisan ship which has been awakened, and for this the; President cannot be held blameless. The World said at the time, and it says now, thut his inter ference with the nomination and elec tion of members of Congress in var ious states whs unwise and calculated to defeat 'the very purpose that he wished to promote. Americans have always responded to true White House leadership, but they have just as con sistently resented White Houro intrus ion upon their lucal affuirs. There never should be a repetition of this error. As wo can imagine nothing worse for the country in its present situation than a continuation, of the venomous partisanship recently in evidence, we must entreat Democrats as well as Republicans to remember that 'the in terests at stake transcend in Import ance the welfare of any political orga nisation or the future of any politician. The call today is to duty. Those who give closest heed to that summons will have the fewest reasons for regret nnd apology hereafter. To all such wo commend this pnss .igo from a short speech by Abraham Lincoln a few days afcer tlio Presi dential contest in 1884 : "Tho strife of this election is but human nature practically applied to the, facts of the ease. What has oc-J rcurrcd in this caso must ever recur in similar enscs. Human nature will not change. In any future groat national trial, compared with the men of this we shall have ns weak as strong, as silly and as wise, as bad nnd as good. Let us therefore study the incidents of this ns philosophy to learn widom from, nnd none of them as wrongs Is be avenged." ' If it ia human nature, irritable or provocation, to go to extremes of pas sion und excitement, so it ia human nature, on returning soberly to reason, to correct its errors and reject evil counsels. With unlimited faith in the patriotism and good senso of tho American people, without regard to party, we look for n truce at Washing ton that will Inst nt least until pen.c has been established abroad. Compensation Plan Re places Pensions. Modern substitutes for pensions have been p'rovided by the government for injured soldiers or for the depend ents of soldiers killed in the service. The Injury Division ;of the Informa tion nnd Education Service, Depart ment of Labor, is collecting informa tion for soldiers and their relatives in rogard to the provision 'that will Ik made for them. . The United States provides compen sation to Injured soldiers or to tho de pendents of soldiers who arc killed, in addition to all allotments, family al lowances, and war-risk insurance.! This compensation is entirely distinct from government insurance prole ' tion, and applies to officers and men ! alike, without regard to rank or pav. It applies to total or partial dinabili y ' and to death Incurred in the lino of duty. . In case of death the soldier's widow, children, or dependent parents are en titled to compensation. If the dis ability is partial the sum paid is based upon the percentage due for total dis ability und upon the reduction in earn ing power. If total tho amount of compensation varies from .'10 to !'1): n month, depending on tile size of the j disabled man's family. In certain specific cases, such ns the loss of both 'hands or both feet, m blindness in both eyes, or in the ease of -bosoming permanently bedridden from causes occurring in the line of duty, compensation is payable at the rate of $100 a month. In the event of death compensation ranges from to $7."i n month, ac cording to the number and relation of the soldier's dependents. Tho widow, children, and dependent parents of men in the service are the only ones entitled to compensation. Th-j vidow shall receive compensation until her remarriage, und children to the r.ge of 18 yeursi SOI.nillltH iH.Ullv TIMIO American Snlilicrx ipr Orders I Awnttinir I 'nun i-'oeh ''mill- . Spokane Woman Gained 40 Pounds I.lectncnl Treatment and verythlnij l'jse failed to Help Her Tanlac Restores Her. , There, that is what J have been looking for the past six months now lor my sister," said Mrs. Vi Legault, wiiii ri-Hiuea ai zii ros Street, Spo l.nne, Wash., pointing; to the big Tun- lac display in Murgittroyd's Drug oiore, recently. "My sister's health has broken down," Mrs. Leerault continued "nn,! 1 firmly!" believe Tanlac will fix her up u did me three years ago. "Before I took it I was suffering 1 1 om u complication ot ailments which luid resulted In nervous prostration. Jiy troubles all started from a bad stomach and I was in a pitiable con mtion. Everything I ate would sour using me such awful pains in the pit of my stomach that I could hardly i m.iihi, u. jiy nerves were in bad I shape, I was badly constipated and even now' I hate to think of the ter rible headaches I had. I also suf fered from weakness and pains in my right sido, which was the worst kind of torture. Electrical treatment and everything else was tried on me, except an operation, which I refused to stand for, but nothing did me any good. I had always weighed around one. hundred and forty-eight pounds, but my sufferln'g pulled me. down to rne hundred nnd twelve, nnd I was scarcely more than a frame, 1 really hall -no desire to live 'an- my case seemed to be hopeless. '"Well, some wonderful things hap pen in this world, and my recovery was one of them. I picked up a pa per one day in Detroit, Michigan, where I was living at the time, and read a Tanlac testimonial given by a' lady who lived but a short distance from me, and right then I decided to try lanlac. The results I obtained are nothing less than remarkable. My appetite soon came back, my stomach got so I. could eat and digest my food and evory one of my troubles grad ually left, and the first thing I knew. I was regaining my lost weight and strength. After using five bottles of Tanlac I found that J had gone up to one hundred and fifty-two pounds actually gaining forty noundu mnkintr seven nnnnilct mnr than I had ever weighed before. And although it has been nearly three years now since Tanlac restored me, I have never been bothered with any of my old trouhles to this good dny, and I have held my weight, always weighing around one hundred artd fif ty pounds. So you can see why I have been so anxfSus to find Tanlac for my sister. I am going to let her know Tight away where she can get it. I am glad to give this statement, for the best way I know to pay the debt of gratitude I owe Tanlac is to tell others how it has made life worth liv ing for me."
