at an average speed of more than two
miles a minute, James M. Schoonma
ker, jr., son of the vice president of
the Pittsburg and Lake Erie railroad,
covered the distance of 228 miles from
the Wright flying field at Dayton, O.,
to Pittsburg in one hour and forty
five minutes. Schoonmaker was pi
loted by Howard Rinehart. The flight
which was made in a De Haviland
Four battle plane, is believed to be a
