Oversubscription of tho six billion dol lar Liberty Loan was declared last night by President Wilson to . bo a matter of world importance at this critical time. "Recent events have enhanced, not lessened' the importance of this loan," said the President's statement. "The best thing that could happen would be that the lonb should not only be fully subscribed, but very 'greatly, over-subscribed." v. f ' ' Accordingly,, instructions will at once go forth to Liberty Loan com mittees everywhere to do even more than In tho last ten days to get every man, woman and youth in America to hold i up tho hands of tho government by buying bonds and more bonds than they have already engaged. America in the next nine days ending Saturday, Octobor 19, must participate in the biggest outpouring of individual re sources ever recorded in nny nation. Two billion dollars already have been raised, one-third of tlio minimum now sought. To barely touch tho six billion murk, new subscriptions nt the average' of $1100,000,000 a dny nre. needed. SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12. The Twolfth Federal Reserve Bank dis trict must subscribe 30,000,000 every day of tho seven business duys re maining in the Fourth Liberty Loan campaign, if it is to reach its quota of (f402,000,000. Is the warning issued last night by district loan headquar ters. This city must subscribe nine million dollurs daily. . . Up to last night the total subscrip tion in the district was $183,448,800, or 43.0 per cent ot tho district allot ment. . George K. Weeks, district campaign manager, pointed out that although the totals wcro far less than they should be, the number of subscribers is far greater than in any former lonn. Official figures show 847,571 subscribers, or one in every six ot population. The goal for the district is 1,500,000 subscribers." BONIIBUYING INFLUENZA CDMBATTED dr. RAY LOGAN TAKES CHARGE OF WORK. HERE. Survey Made of Nurses No Patients Vet Reported In This Section , Instruction Issued. Dr. Ray Loganj phairman of the committee to take charge of all cases of influenza, should the epidemic start here, announces that a survey of all nurses and others willing and able to assist in caring for the patients should the need arise, is being taken. -' Thus fur, no cases have been re ported. Every measure is being taken to acquaint the public with the ntiture of the disease and the precautions which should be token to avoid it. - Dr. I,ogan suggest that the follow ing instructions be saved ns a matter jot health and that each person thor oughly familiarize himself with the i best means of avoiding the disease as Iwcll as steps which should be tuken in i case it is contracted:, '- ... . What should be done by those who catch the disease: ., ... ,;, , It is very important that every per son who become sick with influenza should go home at once and go to bed. I This .will1 help keep-away dangerous complications nna win, at tne same time, keep the patient from scattering the disease far and wide..' It is higily desi rnble that, mo one be ' allowed to Uleepl in the same room with the patient.- In fact, no one but the nurse should be allowed in the room. j If there is cough and sputum or run. ning of the eyes und nose, care should be taken that all such discharges are collected on bits of gauze or rag or paper napkins and burned. If the pa tient complains of fever nnd headache, he should be given water to drihkj a cold compress to the forehead, and, a light sponge. Only such medicine should be given as is prescribed by the doctor. It is foolish to ask the drug gist to prescribe and may be danger ous to take the so-called "safe, sure, andiharmless" remedied advertised by patent medicine manufacturers. . If the patient is so situated that he can be attended only by some one who must .also, look after others in. the family, it is advisable that such -attendant wear a. wrapper, apron, or gown over tho ordinary house clothes while in the sick, room, and slip this off when leaving to: look after the others. , . ;-).Miu Nurses and attendants' will do well to guard: against breathing in (Jangsj ous disease, germs by wearing 'tr-Bifn-ple fold of gauze, or mask while near the patients. How Can One Guard Against, In fluenza? . , ' ' In guarding against disease of all kinds, it is important that the body be kept strong and able to fight off dis1 ense germs. This can be done by hav ing a proper proportion of work, play, and rest, by keeping the body well clothed, and by eating sufficient, wholesome, and properly selected food. In connection-with diet, it is well to- remember that milk is one of the best all-around foods obtainable for adults as well as children. So far as a dis ease like influonza is concerned, health Authorities everywhere recognize thj very close relation between its spread nnd over-crowded homes.. While it is not always possible, especially in times like the present, to avoid such over crowding, people should consider the health danger and make every effort lo reduce the home over-crowding to a minimum. The value of fresh nlr through open windows can not be over emphasised.
