Chambrend arrived in the city this morning from her home In Portland to meet her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Bovey, who came from New York this morning. . Joseph Snodgrass, who has been very ill for the past few weeks, returned to hia homo from the Grande Ronde Hospital yesterday ' and is reported to be slowly im proving. Mrs. II. A. Weaver and children returned to thier home in Olympla, Washington this morning, nfter a visit of several weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson. Cato Johns, of Hcrmiston, spent yesterday in the city in the In terests of ills brother, Charles A. Johns, who Is running for Supreme Judge in the primaries on the Re publican ticket. John Snodgrass, son of Mr, and Mrs. Joseph Snodgrass of this city, nnd who is now connected with the Mechanical Department of the . 111 Engineers Corps, U. S. Mr. nnd Mrs. William Regan and baby daughter Virginia, returned home this morning after a, short visit to friends an relatives in Port A marriage license was Issued this morning to Herbert Buck, who is connected with the Easern Light & Power Co., and Miss Helen Mileham, who recently arrived here from the East. Arthur Huff, a prominent far mer of 'this valley, returned this morning from a trip to Canada. Mr. Huff says he Is delighted to get back to Grande Rondo valley as he is in very poor health. Cecil Huntley and Virgil Stine, two of the boys who were implicated in the robbery of the La Grande Gro cery Co., and a number of other stores will be taken to Salem this ev ening and placed in the State Reform School. Mrs. H. M. Bovey arrived in La Grande this morning and will spend a short time visiting friends in this city. Dr. and Mrs. Bovey were formeiiy residents "of La Gtando and have many friends here who will welcome Mrs. Bovey. Mrs. W. D. (Special) According to a telegram received by his rather, Sam Cole, a Joseph boy who enlisted -In' a Medical Corps last spring, Is going to come home on a two months furlough. Mr. Car penter, the supervisor, estimates that the work will be completed by the first of August at a cost of between $30,000 and $40,000. Mrs. E. M. Calvert, wife of our station agent, went to La Grande tha first of the week to take part in the musical entertainment. According to the ruling made nt the last meeting of the City Council Joseph is cleaning up yards, alleys etc. Work Is started clearing off tho city park too.
