WITH TRUCK TRAINS
Government Vehicles Leave Detroit

The eight of long trains of olive
drab uotor trucks, leaving Detroit
for the Atlantlo seaboard is rapidly
becoming a familiar sight; for it is
now a daily occurrence. - Each
truck traln is accompanied by a
a smaller train of passenger cars, ,
, In-the , middle of last 'winter,
truck makers in Detroit began the
delivery; of .war trucks oyer the
snow-covered roads. .Though the
government itself is the purchaser
of the trucks, It1 was impossible to
secure enough freight cars to ship
the dally scheduled production. In
spite of all the road difficulties of
the severest ' winter on record, the
road delivery was successful, and
has boen continued, until now two
companies of soldiers drive away
60 trucks a day. Six Dodge Bros.
cars go along with each truck train,
also destined for service overseas.
The plan of. driving the huge war
trucks overland is a success, not
only from the standpoint of getting
the vehicles to their destination -regularly
and promptly, but also,
front the standpoint of transporta
tion of war materials. ' Many De
troit factories are busy witfi gov
ernment contracts, and the trucks
curry huge quantities of war mater
ials of all sorts on. each trip to the
Atlantic ports. The railroads are
relieved of the, task of carrying
much, tonnago, and, munitions are
reaching their seaboard shipping
points in ateady stream. ,
