Conditions in the market at the
jNorth Portlund yurds have not been

they have been in the previous week.
There have been spots where some
classes have advanced and others
where they have slipped back n little.
In the previous week the mnrXel
showed a continuous accumulation of
strength right up to the end of the
week, but the opposite condition has
prevailed in the cattle and hog sections
this week, in which the mnrket at the
CloBe shows some signs of slowing up.
The top steer price continued firm,
but medium stuff which showed a
very active phase at the week's open-
inj market has suffered a corresDond
in(? decline at the close of the week
and buyers are not so keen for this
class. Stockcrs and feeders continue
.steady with an excellent demand.
The hog nlleys have shown a de
crease in both price nnd activity just
about corresponding to that shown in
the cattle department. The top on
Monday, with some excellent quality,
In the alleys was $17.25. The latter
.part of the week has shown very lit
tle quality with a top of $17. It would
be very difficult for any one to pre
dict at the present time what next
week's developments will bring forth.
General conditions would not warrant
any permanent break in prices, and
yet irom the consumers viewpoint
and from the viewpoint of the finished
product, prices seem to he near ths
top.

of old Union County la worthy of
the best traditions of American citizenship.
It is my opinion that Germany Is
far from being beaten. The impend
ing struggle will eclipse In ferosity

transpired. The enemy knows that

must win now or :ever. He will
