General market conditions In the Portland Stock Yards continue fair to steady, with the greatest activity shown in tho feeder section of tho cattle mark et and the thin lamb section of tho sheep market. The hog, market is rather weak, with considerable movement going to outside buyers and a rather slug gish market amongst local buyers. This is influenced somewhat, how ever, by the fact that the quality of fered in the market today is far from being good. Tho following prices prevailed In tho yards: CATTLE Med. to choice steers, 9.75-10.25; good to medium steers, 8.00-9.50; common to good steers, 7.00-S.40; choice cows and heifers, 7.00-7.60; common to good cows and heifers, 5.75-7.00; canners, li.00 5.25; bulls, 4.50-G.75; calves, 7.00 10.00; stockers and feeders, G.00 8.00. HOGS Prime light,, 15.45-15.fi0; prime heavy, 15. 50-15. 05; pigs, 13.-50-14.50; bulk, 15.50. SHEEP Western lambs, ,14.50 15.00; Valley lambs, 14.00-14.25; yearlings, 12.50-13.00; wethers, 12.00-12.50; ewes, 9.50-11.00. o Asks Seed Fund Appropriation. WASHINGTON, Jan. 12. (Spec ial.) David P. Houston, Secretary of-Agrictilture, has asked "Congress for an appropriation of $(1,000,000 to enable the Department of Agricul ture to buy and soli seed to farmers for cost at a reasonable price.
