We are all anxious to hear from the boys in France for the Inibler boys, nro everybody's boys In Imbler. Lynn Strlngliam writes home that the little stories in his picture book of Ions ago have been realized as a fact. The people in France have large herds of sheep and at night the shepherd can bo seen blowing a horn and tho sheep following Kim home. Sherwood Williams sold his resi dence property In La Grande to Ly man WeekB and Mr. Williams lias : taken over Mr. Weeks' place hero in town. '"" The city council met Tuesday and transacted their regular routine of business. Mr. Hurley was elected mayor to fill the vacancy caused when Mr. Dcnnlson went to Portland. Mrs. Wm. Wiggans received news that her brother, Marion Stevenson, had left for parts unknown. He was a memhe'r of cavalry troop H sta tioned at Palm City, California. Ho bad just received a medal for being tho best sharp shooter in the troop. Wo expect to hear from him from where in Franco as 12,000 cavalry men are to go to France soon. Geo. Booth left on Saturday even ing's train for his home nt Salem, Or. Imbler seems to bo overrun with shows lately. People helievo In pa tronizing traveling shows hut not their homo attractions. . R. C. Haun, of Elgin, has been in Imbler this week collecting light bills. Welford Westlnskow .and Mack Greabel went to Baker City Thursday where they expected to enlist with ; the aviation corps. A surprise party was held at Ly man Weeks' home In honor of Miss Mildred Weeks Thursday evening by her schoolmates. All report a very pleasant evening. They were enter tained by different amusements un til a late hour when a very delicious lunch was served. ' Mildred will be greatly missed in her school room as she seemed to bo one of tho favorites. Mt.' Mitchell, of Portland, was In Imbler Thursday looking after the businos3 of the Standard Oil Co. Miss Effle and Edna Snider wlie are teaching school in Imbler were in La Grande the past few days visiting their brother who has enlisted In the army.
