A Modern Darwin
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 15. (Spe
cial.) Some of our theories about
monkeys are all wrong, according to I
Darwin, modern naturalist, who lives
on the Island of Guam.
That monkeys are not searching
for fleas when cxnmining the fur of
one another, but are in quest of little
masses of salt-tasting solution that
exude from the pore3 of the skin, is
the opinion of Sergeant Robert I..
Darwin, a retired member of the
United States Marine corps, who is
owner of a monkey ranch on the
Pacific island.
Darwin does not suggest the raisin:;
of monkeys to relieve the salt scar
city, neither does he claim relation
ship with the author of "Origin of
Species."

finds farmers optimistic over the out
look. He says the crop for 191i was
worth $300,000 and this was on land
which, would have been idle bad it
not been s turned to pea growing.
There have been a number of calls
for data and instruction on pea grow
ing from communities outride of
Spokane county.
