THANKSGIVING DAY
Today we give thank. And there arc many thiiur
to hi- thankful for and we should pour out our gratitude
to God today in worship and prayer from hearts full ami
overflowing. ; ' .
Let us be thankful wc live in the United States, under
the best government and under the Stars and Stripes,
'the best flag on earth. While we arc at war, let us In-
thankful that we have a country worth fighting for; let
iw lit. thankful that we are nut to the test, that our
patriotism is under fire, that we have duties and respon
sibilities that try, our character, our manhood and our
''.womanhood. Let us face the future bravely and onfi
dently, with our national motto, "in God We Trust,"
urn-hanged and unshaken.
Let us be thankful for our President, a God-sent man,
who is guiding our ship of state wisely and well.
Let us be grateful that wc live in Oregon, surrounded
by plenty and in the midst of prosperity, that we live
ill Eastern Oregon in good communities, surrounded by

the riven fields of France, all red and damp with gore; avoid
the battle's din and reek for ycu will find the man you seek
in any village store. He' sits and talks from sun to sun, and
says he wishes he might run that scrap across the pond; his
fount of language ne'er runs dry until some fellow asks him
why he has not bought a bond. . , .

Bruce Dennis, director of work of the State Council
of Defense, urges every county in the state to appoint
a county agricultural agent. This is a good idea. As in
manv other things Union and Wallowa have them already
