Unlike the ordinary press and un like most presses in Eastern Oregon the paper are not fed by hand and do not come in separate sheets. Kvery one has probably seen one of tho old kind ol presses work. In this operation the pressman grasps each piece of paper separately, places it in position lo get the impression from the type Lach sheet is then removed by hand or tiy tlies, laid in a pile, until the number needed is run off. These are then turned over and printed on the inner sine una inter tins, are run through a folding machine or folded by hand. I On the Duplex press the paper if i fed from a lage tilsllllv-wounil roll. weighing over a thousand pounds. The paper is in a continuous p.ece and each roll contains four miles without a break. As it is fed from the roll it I passes m-er the feed rollers near' the center of the press, thence over loop- ing rollers operated by equalizing cams and levers, thence by mc.fns of other rollers is guided to and under the printing rollers of one bed, con taining type forms, up over another series of rollers and under the print ing rollers of another bed containing type forms, thence to another looping roller and into the folding part of the machine where still another intricate series of rollers fold the paper and cut it after which it is delivered from n box just above the place from where it started and just as you now have it. During the entire process not a hand has touched it and not a 'vive h'is been made except by the press itself. To install the press an expert, W. ,7.
