They are proficient In the regular army drill manual. All the officers have attained their posi tions solely on merit. They have had the aid of regular army officers, but these gradunlly withdrew ns the women developed of ficers of their own. A tremendous Impetus was given the youthful organization when, through the death of her fathcr-ln-law, Lady Cnstlerengh became marchioness of Londonderry. Society flocked to her colors, only to find that commissions could not be bought and then, curi ously enough, they set out to work for them. There is ninny n prominent so ciety woman serving In the ranks with servants of her own establishment. The marchioness received the offi cial attention of Lord Kitchener, when he recommended her as the colonel In chief for the very good and sufficient reason that he desired the command to go to a lender willing to accept the guld'uice of the government. Mrs. rankhurot Is said to have been more or less disappointed at this turn, but ehe lost no time In grieving Instead, flip loyally supported the legion of Am- aons. . While there seems to be not the remotest fear of Invasion, either now or In the years to come, It Is felt that In case of any internal disruption oc curring through malignant Internal forces or enemy air rntds, a body of healthy, straight-thinking, well-officered and trnlned women would be of Inestimable aid. R. never Identified herself with the mili tant suffragettes, but her chief aid, Mrs. Haverlleld, was a leader among them, driving her dog-enrt through the London streets bearing flaming placards, "Votes for women P'and hav ing with evident enjoyment numer ous fights with the police and the rabble. Rest a second, then with weight of body borno on toe3, lower slowly down to floor, and repeat. When in the house in stocking feet, Sour Stomach.
