'Baker Miss Alta Spalding decided to 1 make a hurried business trip to Pen dleton, where she has farming in terests. Soon after she left a tel egram was received by Miss Strachaa to tho effect that Miss Spalding had fallen ill and had been taken to the Pendeton Hospital, in which institu tion' her brother is a surgeon. It is reported that it will be several days before Miss Spalding will be per mitted to leave the Hospital and in the mean time Mis3 Grace Walker a former teacher in Joseph, will be em ployed to tea-;h her room, Floyd H. Wilkins, manager of the Jennings Hotel, left Saturday morn iing with a cur of stock belonging to ('. C, Gorsling. GroVer Swuggart and family left Monday morning for Imnaha, wheie Mr. Swaggart will be employed to build a flume for irrigation purposes there. Miss Thelma Miller left the last nf the week for La Grande, where she wil attend a Catholic school. I As yet Nate Tryon has failed to do any thing except to tear things up on the strip of ground which should have a cement walk upon it. This is the only sidewak which has not been finished and as the sidewalk leads up to school the school children are think-! of petitioning Mr. Tryon to install the ! walk right away. I After attending the institute at Jennie Shepherd of the Commercial Department of the Joseph High school made a side trip to Weiser where she visited with her sister.
