Ad Santel, the present 175-pound wrestling champion of tho world, will meet Jack O'Neill in a finish contest at the Arcado early in November. 'Santel has a wonderful record as n wrestler, having mot practically all the new wrestlers in the heavyweight and light-heavyweight class, the past hammerlock. Santel squirmed from side to side, one shoulder always a few inches from the mat and finally brought his wonderful legs into play. Westergard went right over the Ger man's body, the smaller man coming up on top. Santel suffered from bruised cauliflower ear, while Wester- gard's left wrist pained him consider. ably. Otherwise both were in fine shape at the end of the match. How. ever, it is doubtful if either will be able to wrestle again for 10 days or 2 weeks, as the rigors of such a match play havoc with the ligaments throughout the cntiro body and there fore must be allowed to become nor mal again before they will stand an other hard match. Pet,- Visser, Aug Sepp, Nick Daviscourt. Gus Kervains und many other well known big men, losing a match on February 22 this year, to Joe Steeli er, world's heavyweight champion. In an exhibition at Dreamland Rink, San Francisco, recently, he mot 10 of the best wrestler's in the Bay vicinity, defeating the whole bunch in 50 minutes and 55 seconds. The army of wrestlers he defeated on that oc casion included tho best local talent from light-heavyweights up to Charlie Miller, the motorman weighting 40 pounds more than Santel. This was conceded by 'Frisco papers to be the most wondrful exhibition of wreRtling ever witnessed in California. The following story appeared in the San Francisco Examiner following his match with Jess Westergard. "San Francisco will wnit many moonS before witnessing another wrestling match like last night's be tween Ad Santel and Jess Westergard, at Dreamland Rink. Without anv ex. was given in marriage to Marion Estless. They are both well known in this vicinity and are highly respected young people. Miss Edna Holmes, the sister of the bride and John Morris acted as brides maid and best man, only a very few of their nearest relatives being pres ent. After a wedding supper the young coup'o left for La Grande, where Mr. Estless had a nice little home all ready for the fair bride. The community joins in extending con gratulations. Apple harvest is in full swing in and around Imbler. It is t common sight to see the dinner pails going down the road. Mr. J. L. Hindmun of Elgin has disposed of his farm south of Imbler and IBrown of the Fair Store farm is harvesting the apples on it. Mrs. Maud Stone and son came up from Elgin Sunday evening to pick apples on the Brown orchard. Mrs. Chestine and family of Flora came over for a few days visit ut the home of Dr. Gilmorc. After the bout had passed the time limit, which is midnight, the police wanted to stop it, but were hooted from the ring. As Santel and Westergard gained their feet, the latter appealed the weakest, but still capable of wrestling until a winner was established. San tel appeared just as fresh as ever and I ne was woi'King just as nam, it not more so, at the end as he was at the start, and Santel did more work last night than he ever did before in a match here. Santel used everything in his reper toire, including the hold which used up Kervaras, Mnnngnff and others in hollow fashion. Westergard broke that hold without apparent effort. He is the strongest fnan to appear in a lo cal ring since wrestling was revived. Muny were the times when both men were in tight holds; times when de feat seemed inevitable, and the fans wonocro;! how tney mnnatrrd to esrane without broken bones, as both men were exerting their tremendous strergth whenever they hail an ad vant'i;;e. Your wonderment increased upon realizing that Santel had not enough strength to pin Wt.sterjrard. but you absolutely failed to understand I why Westergard could not command I enough strength to pin Santel.
