The following letter was received
from J. E. Waller by Mr. and Mrs.
Krouse, of this city:
Dear Friends: I suppose you have
begun to think I have forgotten you.
But ask you to excuse me for not
writing as I have been so busy. We
are drilling six hours a day and have
two hours lecture in the afternoon on
first aid work. I like the first aid
work much better than the military
drilling. Secretary Baker, of the War
Department, was out here today and
the whole Rainbow division was pass
ed in review, iney always have one
of those review marches before they
send any troops away. I dont know
just when we will leave. But think it
will be about a month. I like this'
camp much better than the one at
Clackamas. It is fixed very conveni
ent. They have built 15 barracks
since we came. And are still putting
up more of them. They are planning
on bringing some of the drafted men
to this camp when the Rainbow divis
ion leave here. They are going to give
all of us another examination before
we go across. They say it is a very
strict examination, but I don't think
there will any of the boys fail out of
ou- bunch. The people of the East

about right. It seems funny to see the

L?er. I was down to Freeport yester
day. T"t. is a -".all town just four
miles from our camp. A bunch of us
boys hired a motor at the bcuch and
went out to catch some whale, but all
we caught was one small flounder.
When we felt him biting wo thought
it was a whale. But found out it was
a big mistake. Ha! .Hal I guess I
have written enough nonsense for nna
time. Will close as it s about lunch
time. Hoping to hear from you soon.

ett: Camp Mills, L. I., N. Y., Sept. 23,
1917. Dear Sir: This morning wo
were in a grand review before Secre
tary of War Baker before whom the
whole Rainbow Division passed in re
view.
The Hospitals were on the end of
the column and we had a long time
to wait while all the other companies
passed before we fell in st the rear.
The Hospitals arc always supposed
to be benmd the rest of the Army and
as much out of the way as possible.
The Southern troops do not come up
to the Western troops. The men seem
to be of a poorer type and they do not
keep their uniforms as clean as thny
might with a little effort and care.
Last Saturday evening and Sunday
I was in New York City seeing the
town and had my first view of tho
Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island, whic.i
is quite a place nnd there was such a
crowd that they had a row of police
men down the sidewalks to keep tho
crowd separated, which was going
each way and to try and keep them
divided.
Sunday I went out to Central Park.
It is quite a place. It is only about
150 blocks long or more.

Reviewing the crop situation for
the current season, .the Buenos Aires
Standard draws the conclusion that
the republic seems likely to have a
recoril breaking yield, but it questions
whether this will do the country
much good under existing eircun'-
1 stances. "The outlook would be most
, encouraging," says the Standard, "if

"But will Europe be hungry enough
to purchase Argentine's grain in
bulk? That will depend upon what
the allies think will be Argentine's po

cause neutrality is a crime to he
punished, but a policy that will not on
