Making Improvements The Ncwlin (Book and Stationery Company is making some extensive improvements in the way of a phonograph demon strating room and extending the toy department balcony. The demonstrat ing room is 9x12 feet with glass on three sides and will bo arranged for the comfort of patrons. Anxious to Serve Joseph Anderson who was examined by the local ex emption board some time ago and who han been living in Walla Walla lor the past month, arrived in the city toduy to go with the quota from Union coun ty to American Lake on Wednesday. Mr. Anderson is from Shelbyville, Michigan, and registered at that place, the local board received noti fication of his transfer by his local board and this procedure saves Mr. Anderson considerable expense. A. is receiving so many calls for apple pickers, that it Is now neces sary for them to list all prospective pickers. The department would ap preciate it' very much if all persons intending to pick apples this year, would come and register at tho Y. M C. A. within the next few days. Here for Examination Hugh Clif ton lulse of lelocaset is visiting in TED THYE AND JIM NOREGAARD ARE TO MEET TOMORROW NIGHT. Ted Thye of Spokane and Jim Noregaard of Wallowa are both in the city. The two young gladiators will meet in a finish wrestling match at the Star Theatre to morrow night at 9:30. Both men are in fine condition and will rest from now on in antici pation of a hard tussle when they come together on the mat. Thye "-has wrestled about once a week all summer and is always ready to give a good account of himself. Noregaard is trained up to the minute, having wrestled twice this month, meeting O'Neill at Enterprise on tho 27th demonstrating his abili ty to go through a long hard match very grace fully and without any ill effects. Their match tomorrow night will be a supreme test of skill and endur ance as they have agreed to wrestle a three out of five fall contest, known to the sport fans as a "battle to a finish." Reynolds Returns J. E. Rey nolds, member of the State Fair Board, returned from Salem this morning. He reports that the State Fair was a great success this year in every particular, the financial re-! turns being a little better than last; year. The exhibits were fine, nnd much admired. Union County was! beaten by Baker by only one-quarter ot a point, which was a good show- ! ing, as both counties had fine exhib its. There were more exhibitors from Eastern Oregon than last year and the stock from this country loomed up fine. Albert Hunter also returned last night. Their horses will arrive in a few days. Taking it all together ; the people were well satisfied with the entire exhibition.
