Here they spend one day taking the Elks' special train straight t Boston to the tig Elks' convention, July 7th to 14th. They arrived at Boston on Sunday evening July 8th and took in the re mainder of the convention. On Mon day a splendid program was given at Tremont Temple 82 Tremont street, James R. Nicholson, P. G. E. R. pre siding. A trip around the harbor was also a feature of the day. On Tues day, Historical Day, there was a wond erful auto trip to historic Cambridge, Lexington and Concord ever the route of the famous "Paul Revere Ride", showing all points of historic inter est That evening was Elks' night at a special performance of "Caliban", a community masque in the Harvard Stadium. Over 5000 people were in the cast, the entire proceeds of the performance being donated to the. Red Cross. On Wednesday. July 11th, the day was devoted to an outing at'Nan tasket Beach and a clam feast at Nan tasket Hotel. Thursday, July 12th, exercises on Boston Common at which some of the speakers were, Orator U, S. Senator Jas. Hamilton Lewis, of niinois; Gov. Saml W. McCall, o Massachusetts; Mayor James M. Cur- ley, of Boston, and Grand Exalted Ruler Edward Rightor. Friday was devoted to a trip to Lowell and Lawr ence to visit the great cotton and woolen r'ndustries in these cities, with sight seeing automobile trips showing points of interest in both places. Mr. Young says the trip through the wool en mills was sure great. They saw every step taken from the time the wool is first brought to the mill un iU it is made into yam. Saturday the closing day, was North Shore Day and trips were taken along the shore: On the return stops were made at the Elks' Homes at Salem, Lynn and Chel sea. Mr. Young says they certainly showed him a good time at Chelsea. On Sunday morning, July 15th, Mr. and Mrs. Young went on to New York, spending four days there, then on to Washington, D. C. They spent four days seeing the sights in and near the capital. They visited at Washing ton's home at Mt. Vernon', went through most of the government build ings, and were in the Senate room dur ing part of the discupsfion on the Food Bill. They met Senator Cham berlain of Oregon, and had quite a talk with Ihim. They also met Vice President Marshall. Mr. Yovme de clares that the .beautiful things to be seen in and near our capital city alone are more than worth the trip. From Washington .they went to Pittsburgh, spending seven days there at the Moose Convention, July 22 to 28. Mr. Young, as Past Dictator of the La Grande Lodge, was the only representative from our city, and Pendleton was represented by Jolvn Lang. On the first day memorial services were held for the late Hyman U. Dnvis, head of the order. On the second day the following new of ficers were elected: Supreme dicta tor, Joihn W. Ford of Philadelphia lodge; supreme vice-dictator, C. A. A. McGee of San Diego, Cal.; supreme prelate, Wm. T. Brenning of Balti more, Md.; and the supreme council: Darius Brown of Kansas City, Joseph G. Armstrong of Pittsburgh, Frank J. Monahnn of San Francisco, WHlard A. Marale of Rochester. N. Y., and supreme trustee. Charles Newton of Winnipeg, Manitoba lodge. On Monday eveninsr. July 23rd, the Pittsburgh lodce initiated 1000 new members, the Toledo lodge doing the degree work. On Tuesday evening was the great Mooseheart Pageant at the Lyceum Theater. A rather interesting and novel feature of the last day's pro gram was the marriage of Chas. W. I-awrence, dictator of the Phoenix ville lodge, and Miss Emma C. Grif fith. Of course, a grCnt deal of business was also transacted at these conventions. From Pittsburgh Mr. and Mrs. Young went to Chicago, spending three days there, and then to Kansas City, both in Missouri and in Kansas, where they v;sited six days with Mrs. Young's relatives. Then they went to Denver for four days. Whiie there they saw Roy Brooks and his wife, formerly of La Grande. Mr. Brooks carried on at least two years and longed if deemed necessary. Then they went on, spending 'a day at Colorado Springs and Monitou, taking in the many resorts in and near these places. Then they spent six days in Leadville, Colorado, with Mir. Young's sister and brother. A day and a half was spent at Salt Lake, and then they completed the trip home. In all they were gone a little over seven weeks, and although they were pretty tired, they report a wonderful and most en joyable trip.
