A society with a long name but a short purpose is the "Associat ed Fraternal Church and Labor Or ganization of Spokane.'.' The purpose is to reduce living cost The organization came into exist ence a few weeks ago when a number of representatives of the several bod is got together to work out a co-operative buying scheme. By pooling their purchases it was easily shown that a worth while saving could be made. The idea was adopted on a small scale in the purchase of fuel and the results were so satisfactory that membership in the organization has grown until several hundred per sons are now included. A nominal in itiation fee is charged each member and the expenses of the business are divided among the several buyers. The managers have opened head quarters in a dwelling house on Third avenue, in Spokane, with F. C, Camp bell and a clerical force, in charge Coal, flour and wood are the principal commodities so far dealt in. The movement is attracting considerable attention as its possibilites are being speculated upon by wholesalers and retailers. A Valuable Health Hint. For the past three weeks an. energetic committee has been visiting available sites and se curing' data such as the Government requires in making its selection. The committee believes it has a good chance to make a showing because of the large number of locations ana tne geographical situation of the city. Many locations have been offered but the committee has kept in mind the Government's requiremnt as to size and accssiibilitv and now has about a dozen proposals to lay before the Government. The Government re quires at least 50 acres of ground and prefers an inland city with favorable climatic conditions. Level ground is desirable. . J. C. Kenri Leblanc. and contains the most complete col lection of documents relating to the war constituted anywhere. The idea of forming a war collec tion first occurred to M. Loblanc on the last day of July, 1914, before hos tilities actually broke out. He began with gatherincr all the imblic nostera concerning war measures posted in Paris. Today hrs collections fill twenty-two rooms. Every aspect of the war is here represented in documents and pictures. Posters showincr the rlo- velopment of American sentiment till tho final intervention, have a nromi- nmt place. Every form of paper money issued in France and the Colo nizes is represented. There are also cotuntless specimens of "trench-craft" and war souvenirs. Mrs. Edna Gregory, who is accused of sending poisoned candy through the mails to Mrs. May Carter, was Saturday indicted in Portland by the Federal Grand Jury. She is still in Pendleton but will bo taken to Port land soon for arraignment. Mrs. W. D. McCully, of La Grande, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Gibson, on Cosbio street Pendleton East Oregonian. Roy Bragg, of Wallowa, was regis tered at the St George Hotel, Pendle ton, Saturday. An announcement has been received hero of tho birth of seven pound baby girl on June 10 to Dr. and Mrs. Jas. Chambers of Palms, Ca). The little miss has been named Lillian Virginia.
